How to effectively assess the online learning of your kids

After almost two years of the ongoing covid19 pandemic, which has caused the schools to close and brought classroom learning to a halt, it is time to reflect on whether your kids are getting quality education through online classes and assignments.

For more than a year, most students in India have not seen the face of their school. One whole academic year has passed over the online mode of teaching and students being enrolled from one standard to the next.

Online schooling has become the new normal for students these days as classroom learning has come to a sudden stop. However, the important thing to consider here is to see the level of knowledge that students have imbibed through the online mode of learning in the last more than a year. Are the kids taking their education seriously? Are the exams being carried on in an unbiased manner?

As parents, you would like your ward to study hard and gain knowledge. However, with the pandemic causing a hindrance how can you ensure that your kid is on the right track in studying and grasping knowledge? Here are some tips and tricks on how to maximize your child’s effectiveness around online learning.

How to maximize effectiveness with online learning

Maintain a routine By maintaining a routine with positive habits can gain you positive results. Since it is easy to get distracted when you are sitting in a virtual class, it is important to set a routine and segregate reading and playtime. Moreover, to make the child stay focused, ensure that you offer him an environment with no or fewer distractions so that the child can concentrate while learning through online mode.

  • Encourage the kid to communicate

Asking questions to clear doubts always works. So, the kids must ask questions to express themselves. Be it your teachers or parents, expressing feelings can ease out kids and help them remove stress and anxiety. If your child hesitates, you can encourage him to communicate freely or initiate the communication yourself.

  • Encourage your child to take notes

While attending classroom lectures, taking notes in virtual classes also helps in a great way. Though the notes and resources are available or provided by the teachers, making their notes help the child to understand better.

  • Maintain discipline

Maintaining discipline is the key to success in online learning along with concentration. So along with maintaining a routine, try to keep a certain amount of discipline while your child attends online classes.

  • Online quiz

Time to time encourage your child to participate in online quizzes based on various subjects available. This is how he/she will be in constant touch with the subjects studying in.

  • Stay in touch with kid’s teachers/educators

For parents, it is good if they could stay in touch with their child’s educators. Staying in touch will help you stay informed. Parents can form groups or communities to share and support each other.

The education system in the current situation is going through some turmoil like most other things because of the pandemic. For many students who couldn’t afford online classes, education has come to a standstill. There are uncertainties, especially for students who are appearing for board exams as they don’t know whether the exams will take place or get cancelled. Many students, especially from economically weak backgrounds, are uncertain whether and when they will start the new session.

Besides, the tiny tots who were to start their playschool last year are the most affected. They have lost a whole year due to the uncertain covid19 situation.

Having said that, we must also remember that the current situation is a reality and we have to face it at any cost. So rather than being upset about it, we should help our kids to gain as much as possible from online learning.
